BTEC Vocational Studies Level 1 Diploma in IT
This new qualification has been designed to give students the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge for working with computers. The course is designed for learners who are interested in working in IT in the future.
The course runs for one year and covers the following areas:
- Design Software
- Imaging Software
- Using Mobile IT devices
- Word Processing Software
- Spreadsheet Software
- Using the Internet and Email
All assessment is by coursework. There are no formal examinations.
Completion of this course could lead to Apprenticeships, Employment or onto a Level 2 Course.
BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in IT
This is a one year programme that can guide you onto a higher
level course or give you skills towards employment. This one year
course includes:
- Using ICT to present information.
- Introduction to computer systems.
- Website design.
- Software design and development.
- Customising software applications.
- Installing hardware components.
All assessment is by coursework. There are no examinations.
Students who achieve a merit/distinction could move onto
an Extended Diploma for IT Practitioners.
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma – IT Practitioners
Are you the sort of student who wants to understand computers
inside and out? Are you hoping to pursue a degree or a career in
the field of computing? Look no further.
The Extended Diploma in ICT is a comprehensive course which
covers a large range of topic areas including, but
not limited to:
- Hardware and networks.
- Applications software.
- Web development.
- Systems analysis and design.
- Software development using visual languages.
This course provides the equivalent of three A Levels which can
be used to go onto a range of degrees in the fields of
ICT and Computing. In addition, because of the vocational
nature of the course, this qualification will help you begin
a variety of computing related careers.
Applied ICT AS & A2
In the first year you will use ICT to produce professional looking
business documents. You will learn how businesses can benefit
from ICT and the effective management of information. In
addition you will carry out a research project which will give you
the skills you need to prepare university level assignments. If you
progress to year two, the focus shifts from using ICT to
developing ICT solutions and managing large scale projects. You
will create and monitor a portfolio based around building a
functional web-site incorporating graphics and multimedia. You
will design and develop various computer generated images used
to create an attractive and cohesive product.
