Further Mathematics AS
This is a course for those with a real flair for and interest in
mathematics. It must be taken alongside A2 mathematics in the
second year of your course, and you will cover applied
mathematics areas as well as further pure mathematics which
will open mathematical vistas far beyond anything you have
seen. It is also very useful to anyone interested in going into
physics, engineering and related fields.
Mathematics AS and A2
Mathematics is all about solving problems, from the purely
abstract realms of geometry and algebra to real problems in
engineering, commercial processes and data analysis. You
will develop your skills in pure mathematics and applied areas
mechanics, and statistics. This course is for those who enjoy
mathematics for its own sake and those who wish to open doors
for careers in science, engineering, business, statistics or any of a
host of other fields. As anyone who reads the news will know, there is a national shortage of mathematicians, so this
qualification is bound to put you in demand. Students need to
have achieved at least a grade B at GCSE Maths.
Mathematics - GCSE
GCSE Mathematics covers a lot of basic skills that you will need to use in a variety of ways throughout your life. You will be able to use a lot of what you learn in GCSE maths in other subjects that you are studying now or you will study in the future.
The GCSE Mathematics is a qualification desired by many employers and is a prerequisite for many university courses.
You will have to take 2 modules: stage 1 and stage 2; complete 2 pieces of course work, and take 2 final exams to complete the course.
The entry qualification for full time students is a recently acquired grade D at GCSE
maths. If you do not have a grade D, then it is usually not possible to complete the
course in one year.

"All the tutors are very inspiring and easy to talk to. During my time at Hyde
Clarendon I have been involved in the NUS and helped to organise fundraising
events for charity. Part of my coursework included an educational visit to
Liverpool to attend a Chemistry seminar . I intend to pursue a career in the RAF
when I have completed my studies at Sheffield University studying Aeronautical
Engineering."
