AS and A2 Level (Media)
During this 50% theory and 50% practical course you will study 4 units designed
to develop both analytical and media production skills. The AS year involves a focus
on key media concepts, the textual analysis of British television drama (such as
Doctor Who and Hollyoaks) and the practical production of two linked media products
such as short films, magazine design or radio programmes.
The A2 year requires students to study various media issues, debates and topics
and to produce an advanced portfolio of two or more pieces of practical work. The
advanced portfolio includes producing promotional packages for film, TV computer
games or pop music.
Additionally, over both years you will acquire a thorough knowledge of various media
industries. Even though you do not need previous media knowledge to do the course
you need to be creatively minded, interested in using media technology, and open
to new ways of thinking about the media all around you. A grade C in English Language
must be part of your entry qualifications.
