BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts
This course provides the opportunity to develop knowledge
and understanding of three art forms, dance, drama and
singing. The main focus of the course is to develop skills
suitable for employment within the performing arts industry
as well as developing personal skills at the same time.
Communication, co-operation and team building
are all essential attributes within the industry.
The course provides the opportunity to explore issues
through drama with an emphasis on practical group
activities. The course is a recognised qualification which
should allow for progression onto a specialist course.
Entry Requirements
Qualifications: 4 GCSEs at grade D - G or above
or equivalent qualification.
Audition: Prepare a 2 minute monologue
BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing
Arts (Acting)
This course is equivalent to three A Levels. Studying
this course will give you an understanding of drama
in both historical and contemporary contexts. This is
predominantly a practical course but you will also be
required to read plays and complete written tasks. Units
you will study include TV/Film Acting, Radio Acting,
Classical Theatre and Contemporary Theatre, you will
also participate in the rehearsal and production planning
of a major performance in front of a public audience. On
completion of this course you will be equipped with skills
to enter the profession or HE to continue your studies.
Entry Requirements
Qualifications: 5 GCSEs at grade C or above
or equivalent qualification.
Audition: Prepare a 2 minute monologue
from a published script.
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma
in Musical Theatre
This course is equivalent to three A Levels. You will
study units in solo singing, acting, contemporary
dance, jazz dance, audition preparation, ensemble
singing, tap, voice and physical theatre. You will
perform in a major musical theatre production and
take part in the annual ‘Songs from the Shows’.
This diploma will help you achieve an excellent
grounding in performance skills and equip you to
pursue a career in the entertainment industry or to
progress onto Higher Education or Drama School.
Entry Requirements
Qualifications: 5 GCSEs at grade C or above
or equivalent qualification.
Audition: Prepare a 2 minute monologue from
a published script and perform a solo song.
You will also take part in a dance workshop.
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in
Performing Arts (Dance)
This course is equivalent to three A Levels. It is suited
to anyone with a passion for dance and those students
who are interested in pursuing a career in dance or
studying at degree Level. Although it is predominantly
a practical course you will also take part in theory
sessions to deepen your understanding of dance.
During the course, you will study: Dance Performance,
Contemporary Dance Technique, Classical Ballet
Technique, Jazz Dance, Tap Dance, Urban Dance,
Choreography and Dance Appreciation.
Entry Requirements
Qualifications: 5 GCSEs at grade C or above
or equivalent qualification.
Audition: Choreograph and perform a 1 minute solo
and participate in a contemporary dance workshop.

Joe excelled at Hyde Clarendon, and through his hard work and dedication became an
outstanding performer. He is a great role model for all students and is always well prepared
for lessons and conducts himself in a professional way. Joe is an impressive dancer who
has the ability to stand out in large performances and as a soloist. Joe has now gained a
place at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, based in Leeds.
